Naturefarm develops and manufactures BioChelated foliar fertilisers that combine targeted mineral nutrition with biologically derived compounds. This formulation approach is designed to support nutrient availability, foliar uptake and plant response.

What is BioChelation?

Conventional chelation uses compounds such as EDTA to bind mineral nutrients and help keep them available to plants. BioChelation uses naturally derived organic compounds—including amino acids, organic acids, microbial metabolites and plant extracts—to interact with nutrients within the formulation.

These compounds may help:

  • Maintain nutrient availability within the spray solution

  • Support nutrient movement across the leaf surface

  • Improve compatibility between mineral nutrients and biological ingredients

  • Reduce nutrient lock-up and precipitation

  • Support efficient nutrient use within the plant

BioChelation also allows foliar nutrition to be combined with plant-supporting biological compounds rather than relying on mineral salts alone.

More than a foliar trace element

Naturefarm’s BioChelated formulations bring together carefully selected nutrient sources with a biological base containing Effective Microorganisms, amino acids, seaweed extracts and organic acids.

This creates a foliar fertiliser that provides both targeted crop nutrition and biologically active compounds designed to support plant health, nutrient efficiency and resilience.

Each formulation is developed around a specific crop requirement, allowing nutrients such as boron, zinc, manganese, magnesium, calcium, potassium and molybdenum to be delivered when they are most valuable to the plant.

Folia+ is a New Zealand-developed range of BioChelated foliar fertilisers manufactured by Naturefarm.

The range has been created to provide practical, targeted nutrient solutions for growers, agronomists and rural suppliers. Each Folia+ product combines a defined mineral analysis with BioChelate™ formulation technology.

The range includes products for:

  • Zinc and molybdenum

  • Nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium

Folia+ products are designed for use within established crop nutrition programmes and can be applied at key growth stages or when tissue testing, crop observations or agronomic advice identify a specific nutrient requirement.

Naturefarm has more than 30 years of experience developing microbial, biological and plant nutrition products for New Zealand agriculture and horticulture.

Our Christchurch manufacturing facility combines fermentation capability with liquid fertiliser formulation, blending, quality control and packaging. This allows us to develop products that unite biological technology with practical crop nutrition.
